PREDOCTORAL OPPORTUNITY
A predoctoral scientist opportunity is immediately available at the Department of Cancer Biology, the Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Cancer Research Institute in Warsaw, to contribute to the WCT EVI MAP project, “Mapping the Evidence for the WHO Classification of Tumours: a Living Evidence Gap Map by Tumour Type”, funded by EU within the Horizon Europe programme, call HORIZON-HLTH-2021-CARE-05-02, led by researchers of the World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Tumours programme at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). https://ic3r.iarc.who.int/projects/wct-egm.pdf
WCT EVI MAP is a collaborative international study to address the problem of unrecognised evidence gaps, pockets of low-level and lacking evidence, and provide synthesis to inform tumour classification. The main outputs of WCT EVI MAP include the development of an expert consensus on evidence levels in pathology, and a free mapping software package, an online living tool that permits the exploration of all the evidence by tumour type, and the development of recommendations for future research, the World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Tumours and guidelines.
The successful candidate will support mapping the existing evidence in a few tumour types within the work package led by Professor Magdalena Chechlinska. This would combine areas of information technology, review efficiency, data science, and cancer research. Activities involve data management, statistical analyses, grant and progress report writing, and drafting manuscripts, and will support and include authorship on significant impact works and guidelines within the field of tumour classification. For the candidate, the study will culminate in a PhD degree.
The successful candidate would ideally have:
- Master’s, MD or equivalent university degree in a related area, including medical specialties, epidemiology, biotechnology, biomedical data, and/or genetics.
- Strong English language skills, both spoken and written.
- IT proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, Statistical software)
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to undertake activities with collaborators but also independently.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills combined with ability to multi-task and produce accurate results

Prior experience in epidemiology, quantitative methods of analysis, data management and surveillance methods, experience in systematic review work, and/or previous laboratory experience, particularly in molecular biology, will be an asset.
Applicants should send a CV, including list of publications and a description of previous experience, as well as a motivation letter and the names and addresses of two academic referees.
