Job Description
Excel Automation expert's main task is to ensure the manual work required for reporting is minimized. Currently most reports are prepared and shared using most common MS Office package tools (MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and/or MS Word). Data and values are copied from one place to another by human hand. Automation expert has to find what kind of work doesn't require manual assistance, determine what needs to be done to achieve best possible automation and then perform the upgrade - usually by creating the automation scripts that are fit for purpose.
The expert is in full control of the end result, meaning that while he has to apply to process requirements of a report, the actual technical solutions behind are entirely up to him. Because of that the expert needs to be able to understand the goal of each report and focus on achieving the expected result rather than holding on to previous methodologies.
Responsibilities:
- defining what work can be automated
- estimating automation effort
- keeping up with the team and its work
- writing automation scripts (almost exclusively VBA)
- supporting others in topics related to Microsoft Office applications
