We’re looking for a skilled DBA (PostgreSQL) engineer to join our growing team. You’ll be responsible for designing and implementing services and data pipelines that power a modern analytics platform. Your work will directly impact how financial institutions access and interpret complex risk data.
A startup building a valuation and analytics platform for the insurance-linked securities (ILS) market. The platform ingests unstructured ILS deal documentation and applies transparent, standardized methodologies to price every security, every day using only publicly available data. Product’s goal is to support the continued growth and professionalization of the ILS market by providing consistent, audit-ready valuations and real-time reference indices. These tools help the entire ILS ecosystem—sponsors, banks, managers, allocators, repo desks, auditors, regulators, administrators, and public stakeholders—understand how risk is being priced in the capital markets and how portfolios are performing relative to evolving market conditions.By aligning capital markets with clear, data-driven valuation, product contributes to a more efficient and transparent global risk transfer system.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a DBA.
- Solid hands-on experience with PostgreSQL:
- performance tuning (indexes, vacuuming, analyzing queries)
- backup and restore procedures
- replication (logical or streaming)
- troubleshooting locks, slow queries, and connection issues
- Practical experience working with Snowflake:
- understanding of warehouses, databases, and schema management
- experience with user/role administration and RBAC
- ability to monitor query performance and optimize workloads
- Experience writing efficient SQL and understanding query execution plans.
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT processes and data ingestion patterns (bonus: experience integrating Kafka → Snowflake or similar pipelines).
- Understanding of data modeling principles (normalized schemas, star/snowflake models).
- Experience scripting routine DBA tasks using SQL, Bash, or Python.
- Exposure to cloud environments (ideally AWS — RDS/Postgres, S3, IAM fundamentals).
- Experience with database migration tools such as Liquibase or Flyway.
- Familiarity with database monitoring tools (Datadog, PMM, CloudWatch, Grafana, or similar).
- Understanding of security best practices (roles, permissions, encryption).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; ability to work with dev and data engineering teams.
