Database Administrator
Responsibilities
- Research, install, upgrade, administrate, monitor, troubleshoot, document, and maintain enterprise systems to ensure maximum availability of critical databases.
- Monitor performance of databases and perform tuning and maintenance to prevent unplanned downtime or performance degradation. Plan, schedule and coordinate the implementation of new databases and modifications to existing databases in a manner that avoids disruption to production and development systems while following best practices. Develop and insure backup and recovery processes are implemented to provide data recovery in accordance with agreed upon service levels.
- Plan, build and execute multiple detailed projects/tasks simultaneously. Demonstrate time management and prioritization skills to accommodate dynamic business requirements while managing scheduled project tasks and activities. Project business cases and implementation plans are defined and communicated to appropriate people.
- Less than 5% travel may be required with this position.
Qualifications
- A few years experience creating, maintaining and administering a production Microsoft SQL Server (2008 – 2017) high availability environment.
- Experience with Azure, Linux, PostgreSQL, and Oracle is a plus.
- Understanding of database design, clustering, availability groups, T-SQL (and related programming languages), backup/restore technologies, replication, SSRS, DTS/SSIS, MSDTC, full-text search, and security.
- Track record of supporting a 24x7 SQL Server production environment, in both a non-clustered and clustered configuration utilizing all associated administrative software tools.
- Technical design, performance tuning and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communications skills, including listening, written, spoken, presentation and influencing; must be effective when communicating with business leaders and collaborating cross-functionally.
- Self-starter with the ability to exercise independent judgment and critical thinking with minimal supervision.
- Strong organization and time management skills to manage multiple projects and conflicting priorities.
- Ability to work effectively in a business emergency situation.
