Job description
This role is best suited for a technology professional seeking to provide tier 2 and tier 3 application and OS technical support for our customers (and sometimes infrastructure, but there is dedicated stream within team for that). You will work with technologies such as Hadoop, Talend, VMWare. This role will work with Data Science teams, will perform root cause analysis, break-fix, performance analysis, troubleshooting and issue resolution. You should be well motivated, should be able to work effectively and flexibly in small team (if you’re looking for fixed type of tasks, you won’t find it here). You should be open-minded and have ‘can do’ attitude.
In this role you will have good opportunity to work with latest open source technologies, develop your skills in almost every aspects related to IT and learn new things, a lot of new things. There are all levels of tasks, basic manual tasks like user accounts creation and password resets. More advanced tasks such as Hadoop cluster functional verification and advanced ones such us implementing new Hadoop modules and performance analysis of Spark cluster (to give you an example). There is huge space for improvements and automation. The more you automate standard tasks, the more time you will have to learn and do cool stuff.
Position purpose
Our team is focused on deploying and administering Big Data clusters. We work in very dynamic environment providing delivery and project services to maintain the infrastructure, improve current standards and implement new solutions.
Main accountabilities
- Build and maintain Hadoop Platform & Infrastructure
- Create and manage security layer for Hadoop environment
- Provide Hadoop cluster performance analysis, develop new best practices, provide troubleshooting support and plan capacity
- Monitor Hadoop cluster connectivity and security
- Interact with all sort of engineers and project managers to gather details and requirements for incidents and requests
- Perform day-to-day activities related to Linux, Windows and applications administration
- Develop and maintain existing documentation
- Actively improve the way you work and how you do things (automate it!)
Requirements
The main requirement is good knowledge of Linux, basic concepts all IT engineers should know - such as networking, scripting, storage and virtualization basics. Apart from that passion and willingness to learn is the most important quality we are looking for.
Essential:
- Must have very good UNIX or Linux experience preferably Red Hat
- General operational expertise such as good troubleshooting skills, understanding of system’s capacity, bottlenecks, basics of memory, CPU, OS, storage
- Understanding of open source philosophy
- Knowledge of Git tools
- Network Know-how (DNS/TCP/IP)
- Basic knowledge of Active Directory
Nice to have:
- Experience with Hadoop platform - we use Hortonworks, but any of them will do
- Experience with debugging processes in Linux OS
- Java or Python or Scala (or mix of those, or even all) skills would be much appreciated
- Interpersonal skills are welcome
