R&D Scientist in User Experience for Industrial AI and Autonomous Systems

Hitachi Energy Research are looking for a Researcher with expertise in the area of User Experience for Industrial AI and Autonomous Systems. You will join a dynamic, motivated and creative team with a broad range of experience and competences. As part of our team you will combine theory with practice, creating, testing and validating new technologies to enable the energy transition.
Your responsibilities
- Propose, contribute to and lead research and development projects on user interactions with advanced automation systems for the next generations of products and systems for power grids, green energy and related fields.
- Collaborate with a global team of researchers and engineers in Hitachi Energy to translate business and technology requirements into wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mockups.
- Conceptualize and prototypically implement creative data and information visualization schemes, especially relating to the state, output and reasoning of AI/ML systems.
- Propose and work on new approaches to designing, prototyping, user-testing intuitive UI/UX of automated systems with business impact.
- Develop concepts for interaction design patterns between humans and automation including emerging Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence technologies.
- Network in the company and actively distribute your knowledge and expertise.
- Collaborate with local and global external partners including universities, open-source communities, startups and vendors.
Your background
- Strong academic qualification with an internationally recognized degree at masters or doctorate level in Usability, Information Science, Computational Science, Visual Design, or any related field of study.
- 3+ years of UX design experience, preferably in designing solutions for industrial or professional applications.
- Ability to interact with end-users, researchers and developers from different disciplines in order to understand and further develop technical and business requirements and design user experiences accordingly.
- Ability to visualize ideas and concepts in an intuitive manner, including storyboards and symbol and icon design.
- Programming experience to develop SW-based prototypes.
- Passion for research and innovation, supporting the adoption of advanced and complex technologies through skillful UX design.
- Experience that demonstrates your team-oriented, innovative, and strategic working styles.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- In addition the following skills would be beneficial for the role:
- Experience working in the industrial / operational technology sector, in particular with digital technologies and industrial automation.
- Interest in and knowledge of automation, machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies.
- Knowledge and interest in products and systems for power grids, green energy and related fields.
- Experience with Python and associated interactive visualization frameworks (e.g. Plotly, Bokeh, or Holoviz).
