The Locus project is a great way to learn about the trade research and trade idea generation process for a variety of different investment banking businesses.
The main challenge is in trying to bring user requirements to market as quickly as possible, when the solution requires input and work from outside of the candidates immediate area of expertise i.e. different areas of the locus team (front end UI Java development or back end C#/C++ analytic development) or from other client providers such as the Quant Strategy or Data teams. The role can involve a lot of coordination and expectation/relationship management.
The Locus project has been around a long time, and as research ideas evolve so the platform has to evolve with them. As such there is a continuous stream of requirements either for new work or for updates and consolidations of existing content. Particular focus at the moment is on the structured products, rates and equity derivative business areas.
N.B. the role will involve coding in a bespoke Javascript/UI environment, which is completely different from a standard web-development Javascript.
Candidates should have hands-on experience programming; capable of learning new programming interfaces quickly; Java / Javascript / JSON / VBA / XML knowledge preferable.
Data analysis skills. Proficient in Excel and SQL
Candidates should have strong troubleshooting skills and an interest in diagnosing problems and finding creative solutions.
The candidate should have a working knowledge of general IT infrastructure environments and tools.
He/she should have strong communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work independently on business development activities.
An interest in Investment Banking / Fixed Income products is desirable.
