Wintel Engineer

About the job:
The Wintel engineer works as part of the Infrastructure Services team. This position is required to support and implement RRD’s IT Strategy and provide 2 line support to all Windows Servers on x86 server platforms across various sites around Europe.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
- Provide second line support responding to incident referrals. Support hardware and software for Windows server operating systems, virtualisation technologies and storage solutions.
- Prioritise problems based on severity and urgency and track all outstanding incidents until successful resolution or reallocation.
- Perform routine tasks for system maintenance as required.
- Conduct routing hardware, software and access control audits, implement remediation activities to ensure compliance with IT Governance.
- Perform operating system installation as per procedures.
- Perform root cause problem investigations and implement remediation’s
- Implement system changes as defined by established change control procedures
- Maintain solution documentation and accuracy of the CMDB
- Flexible approach to working as unsociable hours is often required.
- Identify and facilitate opportunities for continuous improvement.

- Relationship Management - good written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with peers and colleagues.
- Customer Management - treats colleagues in the business as customers and adopts a Service Excellence approach.
- Able to communicate effectively with non-technical staff regarding issues, progress to resolve and next steps
- Technical Expertise - With 3+ years’ experience. Reviews system and software updates and patches, identifies which need to be implemented. Installs and tests news version of systems software. Maintains support processes. Undertakes more complex issue investigation and resolution and able to use a number of application management software and tools to aid diagnostics and produce reports for management detailing findings / post incident reports.
- Quality Management - Strong adherence to quality processes and understanding of right first time approach and able to review code to ensure quality controls are in place
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server Operating Systems
- Current knowledge of x86 technologies and platforms
- Experience of working with a team of IT engineers and infrastructure across a multi-site environment
- Understanding of service management tools from IBM. TADDM, TSM, and IT CAM.
- Good organisational skills, the ability to handle a variety of tasks and priorities.
- Strong English communication skills and ability to work individually or as part of a team.
- Proven problem solving and decision making skills
- Experience of ITIL and Prince 2 methodologies.
