SQL Database Administrator
Responsibilities:
- Is part of a cross-functional team that conducts proactive monitoring, remote diagnostic investigation and maintenance activities on SQL database systems
- Acts as an escalation point for all incidents involving SQL database environments
- Provides operations support by responding to inbound calls and emails from a wide variety of client organizations and external groups and performs the necessary support required to resolve issues
- Provides support during large scale outages and disaster recovery efforts
- Identifies researches, and develops database process improvements and recommends them to management for implementation
- Creates, employs and maintains resource documentation for reference and troubleshooting issues
- Creates change requests in accordance with change management policy
- Collaborates with internal groups to create reports on up time, service Levels, server utilization, and other key metrics, as directed
- Provides recommendations to improve the customer experience
- This position operates in a 24 x 7 x 365 environment. Shift work and the ability to participate in on-call rotation, is required as needed
- Successfully completes training requirements based on career development plan and assists in the development and training of others
Recquirements:
- SQL Server administration, managing clusters and database monitoring
- Performance tuning and optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
- Troubleshooting and resolving database problems
- Automation using scripts (Powershell, Python, Perl).
- Knowledge of indexes, index management, statistics, data-at-rest encryption, secure connectivity
- Windows server, including Active Directory and proper disk configurations.
- Compliance and securing systems to meet compliance requirements
- Establishing Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
- Incident management. including total outages
- Experience with data security platforms including IBM Guardium and JackDB
- Formal, large scale development experience or large scale production experience
- General understanding of enterprise scale application design and issues related to data access and management
- Experience with AWS GovCloud or C2S, disk management (EBS), EC2 operations
- Thrives in a high paced, energetic team environment
- Creative problem solver
- Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors
- 3+years of experience with SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2008 R2, or SQL Server 2008
- 3+ years of experience on production deployment
- 5 years of demonstrated database expertise with the ability to successfully complete challenging engagements and manage difficult client situations
- Certification is a plus; MCTS, MCITP, MVP, ITIL v3 Foundations
